Years ago when I still had a computer running Windows XP I had a Major BBS that would rlogin to Synchronet which was running as a doorserver as described at
http://dmud.thebbs.org/wg/setup.htm
When I upgraded away from Windows XP I backed up all my old BBS stuff, and shut it down. I got nostalgic again so now I've got a server running Ubuntu, and I installed Windows XP in a VM. I've got mbbs running great, and I've got sbbs running great in the same VM. I created an rlogin module in mbbs with the connection string
l 192.168.1.11 %U %U ansi
When I access that module in mbbs I can see the rlogin connection pop up in sbbs, and I can see that it passes the username twice and ansi properly too. I can press f12 in sbbs and spy on the node to watch it log in and get to the door menu, but nothing ever comes up on the mbbs side. It just sits there for
a few minutes and then disconnects. Mbbs says
RLogin: ...Connection terminated because of [Unknown].
I guess sbbs can hear when mbbs talks but mbbs can't see anything that sbbs says in return?
Port 513 isn't being used by anything other than sbbs.
Does it work when you connect manually with an RLogin terminal?
Does it work when you connect manually with an RLogin terminal?
Yes, I can rlogin directly into sbbs on port 513 just not through mbbs.

That tends to indicate a problem with mbbs then. A TCP dump might shed some light on what's going on, but probably not a solution.
Anyways, I think I have it solved!

Haha, nevermind...
External DOS programs are not yet supported in
Synchronet BBS for Linux Version 3.17
So, either the dos doors will run, but I can't connect to them, or I can connect
to them, but they won't run. Any ETA on getting External DOS programs working in
sbbs linux perhaps?
